Our "People of PSG” series is an opportunity for friends of the Public Safety Group to get to know the people behind the products and services you know and love. Each article will feature an interview with a PSG team member and will provide insight into their role, why they choose to work for PSG, and some fun facts about the team member. You won’t want to miss this series!

Today, we had the chance to chat with Joy Knobbe.

Tell us a little about yourself and your background.

I have been working in publishing my entire 30-year career as either a sales consultant or a marketing role. I started at the small St. Louis Home Magazine, then I worked for Mosby in St. Louis for 16 years. Now, I've been working for Jones & Bartlett Learning for about 8.5 years.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

I really enjoy working with instructors to assist them in their EMS and Fire training programs. My instructors are like extended friends and family! It is fun getting to know their programs and them.

What's something you've done that most people haven't done?

I enjoyed the Haleakala volcano tour on the island of Maui. It started by watching the sunrise at 10,000 feet above sea level, then I rode a bicycle from the top of the inactive volcano to the bottom. This was all on the same road travelers use to come up and down to see the inside of the volcano. I was much younger and much less scared of heights when I elected to do this ride.

Outside of work, what hobbies or activities do you enjoy?

I love to paint! While I don’t normally paint many pictures, I love to transform rooms in homes with paint, curtains, etc. I am currently painting my 60-year-old childhood home that my parents built and transforming it room-by-room. I like to see the before and after, and painting is therapeutic to me. I turn on Christian radio, and I go into my little world to wash and prep the walls, sand, then paint. I also like to cook, bake, fish, walk/hike, and bike while waiting for the paint to dry.

Stay tuned for the next "People of PSG" feature!
