Special Events Medical Services Podcast With Author Clay Richmond

Posted by Jessica Carmichael on Apr 7, 2011 1:53:49 PM

During the recent EMS Today conference in Baltimore, Maryland, Jones & Bartlett Learning (JBL) sat down with a number of our authors to discuss their training programs. Over the next two months, JBL will be releasing those conversations to you as part of our Spring EMS Author Podcast Series.

In His Own Words...
Today, JBL is pleased to present our fifth Podcast, a conversation with Clay Richmond about Special Events Medical Services (SEMS). In it, Mr. Richmond provides an overview of SEMS, discusses how he became involved in special events EMS, the reason he developed this course, the features and benefits, and why it is important for EMS providers.

About Special Events Medical Services:
From staffing to set-up, SEMS prepares EMS personnel to properly plan for and manage medical response at any type of special event in their community. This concise, highly interactive continuing education course consists of the SEMS textbook and online course.

Since no two special events are alike; SEMS covers the basic principles to apply when planning for and working at any type of special event, including:

  • Preplanning
  • First aid station planning and set-up
  • Communications
  • Safety concerns
  • Mass-casualty considerations
